St. Petersburg’s Deondre Earley commits to Eckerd

St. Petersburg guard Deondre Earley has committed to Eckerd. The senior made the announcement on his Twitter page Wednesday night.

“They just have a great coaching staff that shows a lot of true support and showed me how much they really wanted me,Earley said of the Tritons. “They’ve been following me for a long time now, and I just feel like we can do big things in these next four years and it’s a great opportunity.”

Earley said he was also considering Cedarville University and North Greenfield University. He became the second player from the area to choose Eckerd within the past month, joining Land O’ Lakes guard Mekhi Perry. The two help the Tritons fill the void left by the departures of former local stars Travis Bianco (St. Petersburg) and Malcolm Whitlow (Carrollwood Day), who transferred to other colleges.

This past season, Earley averaged 21 points, 7 assists and 5 rebounds per game.
