Sickles’ Gary Jones III picks Florida Southern

Gary Jones III, a 7-foot forward, towered over bay area players this past season. His size made him a coveted prospect, particularly at the Division II level.

The Sickles senior mulled over his college choices, which included Flagler, Greenville and Washburn among others, before picking Florida Southern.

“I decided on Florida Southern because I felt it was the best fit for me,” Jones III said. “I fell in love with the campus when i visited last summer.”

This past season, Jones III averaged 12.7 points, 9.8 rebounds and 5.2 blocks per game while helping the Gryphons finish 20-7.  He was a second-team selection in the Western Conference’s American Division.

By joining the Mocs, Jones III easily becomes the tallest player on the team. Florida Southern had no one taller than 6-7 on last year’s roster.
