Hillsborough County pushes back start of fall practices to Aug. 10

Hillsborough County public schools will start practices for fall sports on Aug. 10, Superintendent Addison Davis said on Tuesday.

The decision pushes back the start two weeks from June 27, the first allowable date the Florida High School Athletic Association’s board of directors voted to maintain on its current schedule during an emergency meeting on Monday.

Hillsborough joins Pinellas as the two area counties that have decided before conducting their first official practices of the fall. Pinellas County athletic director Al Bennett said public schools in that county would not start on July 27, though he was not able to give a specific date on when they will start.
