Former Wharton star Darin Green Jr. declares for NBA draft

Central Florida’s Darin Green Jr., a former standout at Wharton, announced Thursday he has declared for the NBA draft.

A dynamic scorer, Green Jr., was the Hillsborough County player of the year during the 2018-19 season. He continued to impress in college, finishing as the Knights’ second-leading scorer this past season with an average of 10.1 points per game and setting the school record for most 3-pointers made by a freshman with 68.

Green Jr. went public with the decision on his Instagram page. He is not hiring an agent in order to keep his amateur status. By declaring, Green Jr. can go through the evaluation process, though it is unclear if the workouts or the combine will still take place given the league shutdown due to the coronavirus pandemic. He has until June 3 to make a final decision on his status for the draft, which is June 25.
