Steinbrenner’s Deon Silas commits to Iowa State

Steinbrenner running back Deon Silas ended his recruitment by committing to Iowa State on Saturday.

Silas, a three-star recruit, made the announcement on Twitter. He had offers from nine other schools, including Bowling Green, Toledo and USF.

This is the second local who has committed to the Cyclones this week. On Thursday, Armwood defensive back Noah Biglow declared his intentions to play there. The addition of those two gives Iowa State nine commitments so far in its 2021 class. The Cyclones’ class currently ranks third in the Big 12 and 21st nationally according to 247 Sports.

It also continues Iowa State’s recent success of landing locals. A pair of area receivers, Steinbrenner’s Aidan Bitter and Lakewood’s TJ Tampa, were signees in the 2020 class. Their arrival gives the Cyclones five locals on this year’s roster.

A dynamic all-purpose threat, Silas had 985 yards rushing, 459 receiving and 614 return yards as a junior. He also accounted for 24 touchdowns and helped the Warriors to their first district championship and state semifinal appearance.
