Reports: Former Jefferson standout Reche Caldwell dies in shooting

Former Jefferson star receiver Reche Caldwell, who played for the Florida Gators and spent six seasons in the NFL, was shot and killed at his home in Tampa on Saturday night according to TMZ.

Caldwell led the Dragons to the Class 5A state semifinals as a junior in 1996 and was named the state player of the year in his classification. He also was a standout in baseball, setting career records at the school. The Cincinnati Reds drafted Caldwell but he opted to play football at Florida.

With Gators, Caldwell was a second-team all-SEC selection in 2001. He was selected in the second round of the 2002 NFL Draft by the San Diego Chargers, where he spent his first five seasons in the league. In 2006, Caldwell played for the New England Patriots and Tom Brady, now with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
