Bloomingdale’s Jayden Williams commits to FAU

Bloomingdale defensive back Jayden Williams picked up an offer from Florida Atlantic on June 25. It took the rising senior less than two weeks to decide to become an Owl.

Williams announced his commitment on Twitter this past weekend. He is the third bay area player from the Class of 2021 to commit to FAU, joining Tampa Catholic twin offensive linemen Jaden and Jordan Sandlin.

“The coaches are amazing,” Williams said. “It’s bigger than football for them, and they’re consistent with their communication. If they want you at their school they will show you.”

Williams picked the Owls over offers from four other schools, including Bowling Green and Toledo. This past season, he had 42 tackles, two interceptions and a fumble recovery.

The flux of area talent has a lot to do with first-year coach Willie Taggart, the former coach at USF and Oregon who has routinely recruits well in the area.

For Williams, having familiar faces already there was just an added bonus.

“I never got the chance to talk to too many of the FAU recruits before I committed,” Williams said. “I knew the Tampa Catholic twins had already committed. It’s good to see kids from the same area going to the same school. I’m sure we’ll build a great relationship when I get the chance to meet them.”
