Former Plant standout Whop Philyor named to Biletnikoff Award watch list

Indiana’s Whop Philyor, a former star at Plant, made the preseason watch list for the Biletnikoff Award, which honors the nation’s top receiver.

Philyor was among 55 players on the initial list and the only local player who made the cut.

After battling through injuries his first two seasons, Philyor had a breakthrough in 2019. He finished with 70 receptions for 1,002 yards and five touchdowns.

Those numbers helped Philyor (featured photo above courtesy of Indiana University Athletics) become more nationally known.

Philyor was added to the award’s midseason watch list last season and was an all-Big Ten selection by the conference coaches.

This team, he will team with quarterback Michael Penix, a former standout at Tampa Bay Tech to form one of the nation’s most dynamic passing combinations.
