USF defensive back KJ Sails, a former standout at East Bay, was among 114 players who were selected as preseason candidates for the Wuerffel Trophy.
The award, named Florida’s Heisman Trophy quarterback, is presented annually to honor those in college football who make a impact on society through community service.
Last month, Sails (featured photo above courtesy of USF Athletics) organized a unity walk in downtown Tampa to help raise awareness for social equality.
He is just as much of a leader on the field. Last season, Sails had 33 tackles and three interceptions.
