For years, Trever Dorris followed the same football path as his older brother, Conner..
Trevor went to Clearwater Central Catholic — just like Conner.
Trevor played linebacker — same as Conner.
They even sported matching No. 40 jerseys during their Marauder careers.

So when it came time for college, it was only natural Trever would duplicate whatever Conner did.
Sure enough, Trever picked a military academy.
Only it was not the same one.
Instead of going to the Naval Academy (where Conner played from 2015-18), Trevor decided to attend the Coast Guard Academy. Before going, Trever is first attending the Naval Academy Prep School — the initial route Conner took.
”The academy is a prestigious academic school, and I get to get to play college football on a full scholarship,” Trever said. “The academies set you up for success. My brother is my biggest role model, and his experiences influenced me as well.
“It was not an easy decision, but I believe CGA sets me up for success in the long run while still pursuing my dream of playing college football. I like the value of serving others in the Coast Guard, as well. I believe God gave me this opportunity for a reason”
Conner, who graduated from the Naval Academy in 2019, is now attending flight school in Pensacola. Trever said he chose the Coast Guard Academy in part because his brother met some football players who were graduates of CGA at flight school.
On Friday, Trever starts basic training. His decision to attend the Coast Guard continues the area trend of area players choosing the military academies, particularly in the past two years.
Military mindset
In the last two recruiting cycles, there has been at least one area player who has either committed to or signed with a military academy
