Hernando County to start practices for fall sports on Sept. 7

Hernando County administrators announced Tuesday that practices for fall sports will start on Sept. 7.

Bowling, cross country, golf, swimming and diving and volleyball can all schedule regular season games or meets starting Sept. 21. The regular season for football will kickoff on Sept. 25.

Teams will only be allowed to schedule games against other programs in the Gulf Coast Eight Conference, which is comprised of Hernando and Citrus County public schools.

Hernando is at least planning to stay in the state series for fall sports.

The games will have restrictions, too.

Seating capacity is being reduced to 25 percent in Hernando, and tickets will be available through an online vendor. Media access will likely be limited to the end zone.

Hernando was the last of the area’s four counties to set practice and regular season dates for fall sports. Hillsborough, Pasco and Pinellas all started practicing on Monday with regular season games set to begin on Sept. 7 for all sports except football, which kicks off Sept. 11.
