OH Audrey Koenig, Sr., Bishop McLaughlin

The FSU, ranked among the state’s top players in the Class of 2021, 

A week after being named the MVP of a tournament the Hurricanes hosted, Koening led her team to another tournament title, this time with five straight wins against quality opponents at the Berkeley Premier. 

She recorded double digits in kills in all five matches at the Berkeley Premier and finished the tournament with 55 kills. Bishop McLaughlin ended up with two-game sweeps in four of those matches, including the final against host Berkeley Prep. 

Koenig has 143 kills this season, nearly twice as much as anyone else on the team.

OH Alex McSherry, Sr., St. Petersburg Catholic

A four-year varsity player, McSherry took on a prominent role in the Barons’ attack and has responded with the best start of her high school career. 

In the first four matches of the season, McSherry had 62 kills — 50 coming in a three-match stretch last week. St. Petersburg Catholic won all four to get off to its best start in years. 

So far, McSherry has 80 kills. No other player on the team has more than 20. 

The fans recognized her performance. McSherry received nearly 50 percent of all the votes (22,633), beating Bishop McLaughlin’s Audrey Koenig, who had roughly 37 percent (17,079).
