The PTP football defensive players of the week

The PTP pick

DB Kevary Jenkins, Sr., Clearwater Central Catholic

On a defense filled with underclassmen starters, Kevary Jenkins has provided the Marauders with a valuable asset: experience.

The veteran in the secondary, Jenkins not only provides leadership but also makes an impact with his tackling proficiency. After all, he leads the team in that category with 35.

Last week was his best performance of the season.

Jenkins finished with a team-high 16 tackles and recorded his first sack of the season in a much-needed 14-10 win over rival Clearwater that got CCC back to .500.

The fans’ pick

LB Peter Pesansky, Fr., Jesuit

A newcomer from Pennsylvania, Pesansky was quickly inserted into the starting lineup.

While his older brother, Joe, has grabbed most of the headlines as the quarterback, Peter has made a name for himself on the other side of the ball.

Last week was Peter’s breakout performance.

Wreaking havoc off the edge, Peter had four tackles, 3.5 sacks and a forced fumble to lead the Tigers in a 41-12 win over Chamberlain.

The fans acknowledged that effort. Peter received more than 54 percent of the votes (19,224) to beat out Jenkins, who had more than 44 percent (15,701).
