Fivay and Osceola cancel football playoff games

Fivay and Osceola both had their football seasons end a day before the playoffs were set to start.

The Falcons had to quarantine after a player tested positive for the coronavirus, Pasco County athletic director Matt Wicks said in a text message. That forced Fivay to cancel its Class 6A play-in postseason game with Hollins.

Injuries and the emotional toll of a boating accident that killed a 16-year-old student this past weekend were too much for the depleted Warriors to take. Left with too few players to compete, Osceola decided to shut down its program for the season rather than face Gaither in a 6A play-in postseason game, Pinellas County athletic director Al Bennett said.

This was the second athletic program from Osceola that had to end its season early. In October, the Warriors’ volleyball program forfeited its district semifinal match after the varsity and junior varsity team were forced to quarantine because of COVID cases.
