Seffner Christian’s Kailyn Gilbert commits to Arizona

Seffner Christian’s Kailyn Gilbert, the reigning Class 3A state player of the year, made her college plans official by announcing her commitment to Arizona on Monday.

Gilbert, a junior, is listed as the No. 6 guard and No. 18 prospect in the nation for the 2022 class by ESPN. She picked the Wildcats over offers from Georgia, Louisville, Miami, Mississippi, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt and Virginia, among others.

As a sophomore, Gilbert led the state and finished fifth nationally in scoring with an average of 32.1 points per game while at Tampa Prep. She also was adept at rebounds, averaging an impressive 11.2 per game.

Those numbers were a big reason Gilbert was named the Florida Dairy Farmers Class 3A state player of the year. The winners in each classification were selected by a panel of high school girls basketball coaches and reporters.

In the offseason, Gilbert transferred to Seffner Christian, where she has continued to pile up points.
