The PTP boys basketball players of the week

The fans’ pick

G Mikey Shane, Sr., East Lake

East Lake has plenty of long-range specialists. Anyone can have a big night firing away 3-pointers. It all depends on who has the right touch at that time.

Two weeks ago, it was Mikey Shane’s turn to shine.

Against Vero Beach, Shane kept knocking down 3-pointers, so much that he finished with nine to set the single-game record at the Wally Keller Classic.

The points have piled up, too. Shane recently eclipsed the 1,000-point career milestone.

The fans thought highly of his performance. Shane received more than 45 percent of the votes (664) to beat out Tampa SLAM’s Donte Forrester-Jhagroo, who had more than 37 percent (543 votes).

The PTP picks

G Donte Forrester-Jhagroo, Sr., Tampa SLAM: Named MVP of the SSAC AAA final after scoring 24 points, including a buzzer-beating 3-pointer, to beat City of Life Christian. The prolific scorer also surpassed 2,000 points in his career this past week.

F Trae Martin, Sr., Brooks DeBartolo: Averaged 12 points, nine rebounds and seven blocked shots in wins over Tampa Prep and Berkeley Prep this past week. For the season, Martin is averaging 16.1 points, 11.1 rebounds and 4.8 blocks per game.
