The PTP boys basketball players of the week

The fans’ pick

G Ryan Weir, Sr., Jesuit

Ryan Weir has made steady progress as a scorer throughout his high school career, going from 7.4 points per game as a sophomore two years ago to 13.5 as a junior to tie for the team lead last season.

The ability to pile on the points made Weir the focal point of Jesuit’s offense this season. The veteran has delivered, averaging a team-high 18 points to help the Tigers go 20-3 in the regular season, including an undefeated mark in Class 5A, District 9.

Two weeks ago, Weir had his best performance of the season, averaging 25 points per game in three wins, including a season-high 35 against Mitchell in the regular season home finale to surpass 1,000 points in his high school career.

Fans took notice. Weir received more than 54 percent of the votes (4,202) to beat out Wiregrass Ranch’s Josh Martin, who had more than 39 percent (3,108 votes).
