The PTP flag football players of the week

The fans’ pick

QB/S Devyn Silvestri, Jr., Newsome

Devyn Silvestri is a multi-sport athlete. She is Newsome’s top golfer and advanced to the regional tournament in the fall.

But flag football is her true passion.

Silvestri has been playing the sport since she was seven years old. Those years of experience have paid off. This past weekend she won the accuracy challenge at the Elite 11 quarterback challenge, which invited girls flag football players for the first time this year.

As a quarterback and safety, she helped the Wolves overwhelm its foes the first week of the season.

Silvestri accounted for a combined 22 touchdowns on offense and recorded a combined four interceptions on defense to lead Newsome to a 5-0 start (outscoring opponents by a combined 241-6).

Fans took notice. Silvestri received 52 percent of the votes (3,530) to beat out Hillsborough’s Layla West, who had more than 30 percent (2,091 votes).

The PTP pick

QB Sydney Stout, Sr., Robinson: Threw for a combined 14 touchdowns to lead the Knights to three victories (by a combined 131-0) to start the season.
