The PTP softball players of the week

The fans’ pick

P/1B Maddie Droz, Sr., Bloomingdale

Last season was a forgetful one for Maddie Droz.

The Bulls’ versatile playmaker battled back from a torn ACL/MCL and played in four games before the season was canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic.

That made her senior season mean that much more.

She has more than made up for lost time. Droz leads Bloomingdale in hitting (.621) and is the team’s top pitcher with a 2.58 ERA and 60 strikeouts.

Two weeks ago, Droz finished 3-for-5 with a double, a homer and four RBIs in a win over Sarasota and threw a two-hitter, allowing one earned run while striking out eight, to beat East Bay.

That got the attention of fans. Droz received 49 percent of the votes (8,627) to beat Osceola’s Mariah Rivera, who had more than 42 percent (7,429 votes).

The PTP picks

C Lydia Castro, Sr., Newsome: Had a combined six hits in four games last week, none bigger than the bunt single that drove home the winning run in the eighth inning against East Ridge in the Kissimmee Klassic title game.

P Mariah Rivera, Sr., Osceola: Led the Warriors by going a combined 7-for-9 with two doubles, two homers and six RBIs in three wins.
