Class 2A

Newsome (18-1) at Navarre (14-3), 3

How they got here: Newsome d. Alonso 27-0, d. Bloomingdale 20-19. Navarre d. Orange Park Fleming Island 12-7, d. Port Orange Spruce Creek 19-13.

Outlook: Newsome is in the state semifinals for the first time. The Wolves did it by knocking off two-time defending state champion Alonso in the region semifinals and survived a scare to get past Bloomingdale 20-19 in the region final. Down 19-14 entering the fourth quarter, Newsome rallied with a score to beat the Bulls. Devyn Silvestri threw for 303 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another score against Bloomingdale. Carolina McKenna recorded two sacks in that game, increasing her state-leading total to 42. Navarre enters the semifinals on a five-game win streak. The Raiders know how to win close games. Five of the victories were decided by six points or less, including two each by a point.
