Baseball state semifinals

All games at Hammond Stadium in Fort Myers. Admission is $9 in advance, $12 on the day of the event. Parking is $10 for cars, $50 for buses.

Dunedin (18-11) vs. North Broward Prep (19-10), 7

How they got here: Dunedin d. Cypress Creek 7-3, d. Wesley Chapel 6-3, d. Cape Coral Mariner 6-3. North Broward Prep d. Pembroke Pines Somerset Academy 5-4 (nine innings), d. Plantation American Heritage 9-8, d. Miami Mater Lakes Academy 2-1 (eight innings).

Outlook: The Falcons, ranked No. 12 in 4A, are making their second straight state semifinal appearance and third in the past years. There was plenty of motivation to get back. Dunedin used the dismissal of coach Ron Sexton by the school’s administration as fuel for its postseason run. That has helped the Falcons win eight straight and outscore opponents by a combined 82-15 during that stretch. The Eagles, ranked No. 4 in 4A, are in the state semifinals for the first time since 2014. They have won six straight, including four games that were each decided by a run and two that went into extra innings.
