Newsome’s Devyn Silvestri named 2A state player of the year

Newsome quarterback/safety Devyn Silvestri, who led the Wolves to their first state title in flag football, was named the Class 2A state player of the year by the Florida Dairy Farmers.

Silvestri is a multi-sport athlete. She is Newsome’s top golfer and advanced to the regional tournament in the fall.

But flag football is her true passion.

Silvestri has been playing the sport since she was seven years old. Those years of experience have paid off. In March, she won the accuracy challenge at the Elite 11 quarterback challenge, which invited girls flag football players for the first time this year.

As a quarterback and safety, she helped the Wolves overwhelm foes throughout the season. On offense, she threw for 3,798 yards, ran for 500 more and accounted for 67 touchdowns (54 passing, 13 rushing). Silvestri also recorded 16 interceptions on defense.
