Jesuit’s Junior Vandeross commits to Toledo

Jesuit athlete Junior Vandeross made his college plans official by committing to Toledo.

The three-star recruit picked the Rockets over nine other offers, including UCF, Iowa, Iowa State and Kentucky.

Last season, Vandeross accounted for 1,215 all-purpose yards (981 receiving, 139 in punt returns and 95 rushing) and had 16 touchdowns.  His playmaking abilities helped him become an all-state selection and played a big role in helping the Tigers reach the 5A state semifinals.

Toledo has had plenty of success landing area athletes with multidimensional skills. Former Lakewood standout Bernard Reedy and former Lennard star Diontae Johnson, now with the Steelers, both excelled in that role with the Rockets.

Vandeross’ commitment marks the first area recruit and just the third overall for Toledo in the Class of 2022. It also highlights the recruiting impact of former Plant coach Robert Weiner, now in his second season as an assistant with the Rockets.

Weiner helped land three former area standouts, Judge Culpepper (Plant/Penn State), Tucker Gleason (Plant/Georgia Tech) and Matt Landers (Admiral Farragut/St. Petersburg/Georgia), al of whom transferred to Toledo and were part of the 2021 class.
