Outlook
Since taking over in 2018, Christian Yockey has made steady progress with the Wolves, going from 4-6 in his debut season to 7-3 and a region final appearance this past year. Newsome continued that momentum in the spring, beating defending state semifinalist Bloomingdale 14-7. The classification remained the same and the district (Class 8A-10) is more than manageable, especially given the amount of returners the Wolves have this season. This group is special to Yockey because it is the first one that has been with him all four years. The running game should be the biggest strength on offense with the return of Jason Albritton, a battering ram who rushed for 698 yards and 11 touchdowns last season. That’s not all. JC Roque (528 yards and five touchdowns) and Drew Dempsey (364 yards and four touchdowns) also are back. That trio gives Newsome one of the deepest backfields in the area. Paving the way up front are linemen Seth Burke, Kaeden Eichelberger, Jesse Jefferson and Alex Spitzer. The top returner on defense is linebacker Caden Huffman, who had a team-leading 96 tackles and three sacks last season.
