Outlook

The Buccaneers are motivated after losing their final three matches of last season, the last coming against rival Tampa Prep in the district semifinals that knocked them out of the playoffs. Berkeley Prep is confident it can turn things around in Justeen Patton-Coulson’s second season with the program. The roster is loaded with college prospects. Four seniors — Ava Swain (UNC Asheville), Olivia Rabinowitz (Emory), Breanna McDonough (Tarleton State) and Jackeline Nerro (Radford) — have already committed to colleges. Two sophomores — Hannah Hankerson and Bailey Higgins — are among the best in the area in their class. That star power will be needed to stay in playoff contention in 3A, District 5, which includes defending state finalist Bishop McLaughlin, as well as Tampa Prep and Carrollwood Day.
