The PTP football players of the week

The fans’ pick

WR/FS Ha’Keem Monroe, Sr., Lennard

Last season, Ha’Keem Monroe made a name for himself by showing off his versatility.

A everydown player, Monroe became a reliable receiver in the Longhorns’ wide-open offense, finishing third on the team in receiving yards with 286 yards. He also turned into a dependable defensive back.

Last week, he showed off all his skills in a preseason win over Braden River that provided a confidence boost going into the regular season.

Monroe finished with seven receptions for 94 yards and a touchdown. He also had a 20-yard punt return and broke up a pass.

Fans were impressed. Monroe received more than 43 percent of the votes (1,228) to beat out Clearwater’s David James, who finished with 28 percent (799 votes).

The PTP pick

OLB Troy Bowles, Jr., Jesuit

The son of Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive coordinator has a penchant for delivering highlight-worthy hits.

The younger Bowles had plenty of them in helping the Tigers record a shutout in the preseason against Largo. He clobbered running backs and drove the opposing quarterbacks into the turf.

That’s not all.

Bowles also put points on the scoreboard, returning an interception for a touchdown.
