Jesuit set to host St. Thomas Aquinas on Friday

Jesuit will host Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas in a matchup of nationally ranked teams Friday night at 7.

Both teams had games cancelled against other opponents. So they spent the past two days working out the logistics of playing each other in one of the most anticipated — and unexpected — meetings of the season.

On Thursday, the teams had a tentative agreement to play on Saturday. That was the day both coaches wanted in order to give them more time to prepare for this last-minute contest.

Instead, they decided on Friday night.

St. Thomas Aquinas, ranked sixth nationally by MaxPreps, is a perennial powerhouse. Last year, the program was declared national champions after beating Saint Louis (Hawaii) in the GEICO state champions bowl series.

Jesuit, ranked 55th nationally, the highest among area teams, has reached the state semifinals in five of the past six seasons. The Tigers have nearly everyone back and are among the state title contenders in Class 6A.
