Outlook

Both teams are off to great starts. The Vikings, under first-year coach Shawn Davis, knocked off Calvary Christian in the preseason, then beat Palm Harbor University 32-7 in the regular season opener. Northeast is led by athlete D’Angelo Hutchinson and running back Markese Norfleet. Against the Hurricanes, Hutchinson had a stellar performance with 189 total yards (112 rushing, 87 passing), two touchdowns and an interception. Second-year Gladiators coach Louis Murphy Jr. is starting to turn things around. The Gladiators routed Middleton in the preseason, then stormed back from a 20-0 third quarter deficit to beat Hollins 26-20 in double overtime to start the regular season with some momentum. Much like the Vikings, Gibbs has a strong run game, led by Traquan Johnson and Sammy Miller Jr., who combined for 289 yards against the Royals.

Pinkos’ pick: Northeast by 7

Putnam’s prediction: Northeast 20-19
