FNF Campus Tour Preview: Mitchell at Wiregrass Ranch

Mitchell (2-0) at Wiregrass Ranch (0-0), 7:30

Three things to know

Home sweet home

Wiregrass Ranch finally gets to make its regular season debut. The Bulls’ opener against Hernando two weeks ago was postponed until November. Last week’s game against rival Wesley Chapel was cancelled. In each case, Wiregrass Ranch did not find out until midweek it would be without a game. The reason? The Bulls’ first two opponents were dealing with COVID outbreaks and contact tracing that left them with thin rosters. The Bulls also have been waiting for the start of the season to redeem themselves after getting shut out by Clearwater Central Catholic in the preseason kickoff classic. Now, they get to put their high-powered offense to the test. That unit is led by quarterback Rocco Becht, an Iowa State commit, and receiver Bryson Rodgers, who has an offer from Alabama, among others.

Zero tolerance for foes

For Mitchell to reach the playoffs for the eighth straight season, the defense has to deliver. The Mustangs have done just that, recording shutouts against Fivay (43-0) and River Ridge (28-0) to start the season. The strength of that unit is up front. Mitchell has recorded a combined 10 sacks in the first two games, including six by Tyler Geary.
