The volleyball player of the week

L Brooke Arnold, Sr., Riverview

A full-time starter since her freshman season, Brooke Arnold has become a defensive fixture for Riverview throughout her high school career.

Her job is to make sure the volleyball stays in play.

She has recorded 200 or more digs in each of the last two seasons and now has 894 all-time — 106 away from hitting 1,000 in her career. That number is attainable if the Sharks can reach the postseason.

They are in position to do just that thanks to the performance of Arnold and her teammates.

Last week, Arnold cecorded a combined 54 digs in the Sharks’ last four matches and helped the team stretch its win streak to eight (it has now reached 10 after Wednesday’s sweep over Brandon).

Fans were impressed. Arnold had 31 percent of the votes (628) to beat out Berkeley Prep’s Bailey Higgins, who had 28 percent (566 votes).
