FNF Campus Tour Preview: Newsome at Plant

Newsome (4-1) at Plant (4-0), 7:30

Three things to know

Plant perfection

After struggling the past two seasons, Plant is starting to turn things around under first-year coach Hank Brown. The longtime assistant was promoted in the offseason and guided the Panthers to a 4-0 record, their best start since 2017. In fact, Plant has already surpassed its win total from last season and is just two wins away from equaling their win total from the previous two seasons combined. The Panthers are undefeated thanks in large part to a stingy defense that has allowed just 17 points for the season.

Steady improvement

Newsome has improved each season under coach Christian Yockey, now in his fourth season with the program. Last year, the Wolves reached the region final and have a solid nucleus back from that team. That experience is paying off. Newsome, currently 4-1, is off to one of its best starts in school history. The lone loss came in overtime against Class 7A defending state finalist Bloomingdale. Their success can be attributed to a consistent run game, led by the 1-2 punch of Jason Albritton (698 yards, 11 touchdowns) and J.C. Roque (528 yards, 5 touchdowns).
