The Hillsborough County Volleyball Player of the Week

S Sydney Ginaitt, Sr., Newsome

After moving up from junior varsity two years ago, Sydney Ginaitt has become a fixture in the starting lineup.

She excels at directing the Wolves offense with her crisp passes setting up teammates for kills.

It shows in the stats.

Ginaiit has a team-leading 503 assists this season, nearly 200 more than she had as a junior last year. Her performance is a big reason Newsome (17-7) is on a four-match win streak heading into the Class 7A, District 9 tournament.

Against Lennard, Ginaiit recorded a team-high 33 assists to the lead the Wolves to a win.

Fans were impressed. Ginaitt received more than 62 percent of the votes (2,036) in the Hillsborough County volleyball player of the week poll to beat out Tampa Prep’s Rylee Johnson, who had 32 percent (1,032 votes).
