The Pinellas County Football Player of the Week

DE/OLB MJ Harrell, Sr., Boca Ciega

Whether rushing the passer or dropping back in coverage, MJ Harrell has a nose for the ball — and a knack for making game-deciding plays.

Take his performance two weeks ago against Northeast.

Harrell returned an interception for a touchdown in the second half that gave the Pirates the cushion they needed to knock off previously undefeated Vikings. That win also moved Boca Ciega into sole possession of first place in Class 6A, District 11.

Fans were impressed. Harrell received 49 percent of the votes (937) in the Pinellas County football player of the week poll to beat out Gibbs’ Sammy Miller Jr., who had 37 percent (706).
