Aidan MacLean sets Pinellas County single-season touchdown passing record

The touchdown pass was a 2-yard fade. It came on the first play of the fourth quarter with the outcome all but decided.

Still, that score — the 32nd touchdown pass of the season for Clearwater quarterback Aidan MacLean — became the most memorable of his high school career.

MacLean set the Pinellas County record for touchdown passes in a season, breaking the previous mark of 31 set by former Gibbs standout Shaun King, who went on to become the starter with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

After getting the record, MacLean took a seat. The touchdown put the Tornadoes ahead by three scores in a 49-28 victory over Dunedin.

“It hasn’t completely hit me yet, but it is crazy to realize that Pinellas county has produced so many talented quarterbacks and that I get to claim my own slice of history,” MacLean said. “This season means so much to me and I wouldn’t be able to do it without my teammates and coaching staff that I love and glue so well with.”

The new county was even acknowledged by the previous record holder.

This is MacLean’s first season as a full-time starter. He spent the previous three seasons at East Lake before transferring to Clearwater this year.
