2021 FHSAA Volleyball State Championships 7A FHSAA Girls Volleyball

The area matchup

Plant (23-5) at Venice (22-7), 2

Both teams are ranked among the top three in the class (the Panthers are No. 1 and the Indians are No. 3), as well as the top 12 overall in the state by MaxPreps. Plant is in the region final for the fourth straight season. Venice is back in the region final after a one-year absence.

The area matchup

Fort Myers Riverdale (23-6) at Mitchell (23-0), 2

The Mustangs, the only area team that is still undefeated, are in the region final for the first time since 2017. They are trying to reach the state semifinals for the second time in school history. The Raiders are back in the region final after a one-year absence and are tying to make the state semifinals for the first time.

The area matchups

Ocala Vanguard (12-17) at Wesley Chapel (19-4), 2

The Wildcats’ dream season continues. They are in the region finals for the first time in school history. To continue its playoff run, Wesley Chapel has to get past a formidable opponent. The Knights, who have won three state titles since 2012, are trying to reach the state semifinals for the fourth straight season.

2021 FHSAA Volleyball State Championships 4A FHSAA Girls Volleyball

The area matchup

Lemon Bay (26-2) at Academy of the Holy Names (20-8), 2

The two-time defending state semifinalist Jaguars are looking to take the next step and get to the championship match for the first time since 1997. Academy of the Holy Names is two matches away from making that happen. The first step is getting past the Manta Rays, who have won six straight, all via sweeps, to get to the region final for the first time since 2007.

A premier area matchup between teams that are each ranked among the top six in the class (the Warriors are No. 6 and the Terrapins are No. 4), as well as the top 10 overall in the state by MaxPreps. Calvary Christian is in the region final for the second time in the past three season and is trying to reach the state semifinals for the first time. Tampa Prep is in the region final for the first time since 2013 and is trying to reach the state semifinals for the first time since 2010.

WR EJ Allen Jr., Jr., Zephyrhills Christian: Had five catches for 74 yards and two touchdowns in a win over Lakeland Victory Christian. 

LB Drew Canody, Sr., Berkeley Prep: Had an interception, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in a win over Fort Myers Bishop Verot. 

DL Keyon Clark, Sr., Tampa Bay Tech: Recorded seven tackles, two sacks and a forced fumble in a win over Palmetto. 

QB Carson Mohler, Sr., Wharton: Threw for two touchdowns in a win over Lehigh. 

ATH Jershaun Newton, Fr., Clearwater Central Catholic: Scored two rushing touchdowns in a win over Tampa Catholic.

RB Efrem Only, Sr., Clearwater: Ran for 146 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries in a win over Nature Coast. 

WR Diezel Spann, Sr., Lakewood: Had two touchdown receptions in a win over Glades Central.

F Jonathan Brink, Jr., Academy at the Lakes: Scored a combined seven goals in wins over North Tampa Christian and Hudson and a tie with Cambridge Christian. 

F/MF Bryan Cervantes, Jr., Osceola: Scored a goal in all three wins last week to keep the Warriors undefeated. 

MF/F Lukas Kaller, Sr., Alonso: Finished with a combined three goals and two assists in wins over Blake and Leto. 

GK Angelo Montoya, Sr., Mitchell: Made four saves in a win over Carrollwood Day and has yet to allow goal this season.
