The Hillsborough County Football Player of the Week – Nov. 1-5

DB Cyrus Chappell, So., Tampa Catholic

Through the first seven game of the season, Cyrus Chappell had one interception.

The Tampa Catholic sophomore tripled that total in one game.

Against Daytona Beach’s Halifax Academy two weeks ago, Chappell picked off three passes. That was impressive enough. But it’s what Chappell did once picked off those passes that really stood out.

Two of Chappell’s interceptions went for touchdowns to help the Crusaders roll to a 63-0 victory. That was the Crusaders’ third straight victory. That streak was snapped with a loss to rival Jesuit in the regular season finale. Tampa Catholic plays Carrollwood Day on Friday in the Class 3A region quarterfinals.

Fans were impressed with Chappell’s performance. He received 48 percent of the votes (1,763) in the Hillsborough County football player of the week poll to beat out Newsome’s Jason Albritton, who had 33 percent (1,231 votes).
