4A region final
Clewiston (8-2) at Lakewood (10-2), 7:30
Both teams are ranked among the top nine in the class by MaxPreps (the Tigers are No. 9 and the Spartans are No. 5). Lakewood is trying to reach the state semifinals for the third time under coach Cory Moore. To get ready for a deep playoff run, the Spartans played a tough schedule, including matchups against Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna and Lakeland the final two weeks of the regular season. Though Lakewood lost both contests, the tough games made the Spartans more prepared for the caliber of competition they will face in the postseason. Lakewood’s offense has been led by its passing. Anthony Colandrea, who played at Clearwater Central Catholic last season, took over as the starting quarterback and has thrown for more than 3,000 yards and 30 touchdowns. His top two targets — Amari Niblack (Alabama) and Terrell Crosby (Toledo) — have already committed to Div. I-A programs. Crosby also is a playmaker on defense and recorded a state-best 14 interceptions. Clewiston has won four straight entering Friday’s game. During that streak, the Tigers have averaged more than 40 points per game.
