Girls basketball: Pinellas County Top 10 — Nov. 29

1. Clearwater (2-1)

Up next: Monday at Palm Harbor University; Tuesday vs. Sarasota Cardinal Mooney; Wednesday at East Lake.

The defending state semifinalists return nearly everyone from last season and are poised for another deep playoff run. The Tornadoes started with blowout wins over Tarpon Springs and Largo before losing by six to another defending state semifinalist, Brooks DeBartolo, in the shootout hosted by the Phoenix.

2. Lakewood (4-0)

Up next: Tuesday at St. Petersburg; Thursday at Carrollwood Day

The Spartans’ young lineup already is off to an impressive start. Last week, Lakewood traveled to Jacksonville for a tournament and beat Bartram Trail and Bolles to remain undefeated. There are more challenges this week with the Spartans facing St. Petersburg and Carrollwood Day.

3. Boca Ciega (3-2)

Up next: Tuesday at Northeast; Thursday at Pinellas Park

The Pirates, who were bolstered in the offseason by the addition of several transfers, put together a tough early season schedule. Last week, they went 1-2, beating Orlando Bishop Moore and losing to Brooks DeBartolo and Orlando Colonial. The losses were by a combined 13 points.

4. St. Petersburg (3-0)

Up next: Tuesday vs. Lakewood; Thursday vs. Hollins

Thanks to the return of Ava Stoller from a season-ending injury last year, the Green Devils are off to a solid start. Stoller has averaged 21.7 points per game in helping St. Petersburg stay undefeated. The first big test comes Tuesday against Lakewood in a battle of undefeated teams.

5. Calvary Christian (3-1)

Up next: Thursday at Mitchell; Saturday vs. Bradenton Christian

The Warriors’ perfect start ended with a 64-59 loss to undefeated Seffner Christian last week. Calvary Christian will try to bounce back with games against Mitchell and Bradenton Christian.

6. East Lake (3-0)

Up next: Tuesday at Dunedin; Wednesday vs. Clearwater

The Marauders started off the season with a victory over No. 9 Largo. Their only loss was to rival Academy of the Holy Names. CCC has another rivalry game on Friday against No. 10 St. Petersburg Catholic.
