The Football Player of the Week — State Semifinals (Dec. 3)

LB Wayne Quin, Sr., Jesuit

For the past two seasons, Wayne Quin has wreaked havoc on opposing backfields. He totaled four sacks last season and entered the Class 6A state semifinals with six.

The senior’s ability to bring quarterbacks was a valued commodity against perennial state powerhouse Miami Northwestern, which had a prolific passing attack capable of putting up big numbers in yards – and touchdowns.

Wayne delivered.

He registered three sacks and helped the Tigers shut down the Bulls in a 37-12 win. That put Jesuit in tonight’s state final for the first time since 1992.

Fans were impressed. Wayne received 45 percent of the votes (197) in the football player of the week poll from the state semifinals to beat out Tampa Bay Tech’s Antonio Camon, who had 36 percent (149 votes).
