Pinellas County Football Defensive Player of the Year Poll (Classes 5A-2A, independent) – Dec. 28

Here are the nominees for the Pinellas County football defensive player of the year in Classes 5A-2A and independent. Voting lasts until 9 a.m. Friday. 

LB/SS Jonquis Bonney, Sr., Clearwater: Recorded 89 tackles, four sacks and two fumble recoveries in leading the Tornadoes to the 5A region finals. 

DL Marcus Calvin, Jr., Gibbs: Finished with 44 tackles, four sacks and three fumble recoveries for the 8-4 Gladiators. 

CB Terrell Crosby, Sr., Lakewood: The Iowa State signee led the state in interceptions with 11 and helped the Spartans reach the 4A state semifinals. 

LB Melvin Jordan, Sr., Clearwater Central Catholic: The Oregon State signee finished with 76 tackles and two sacks for the 3A region finalist Marauders.   

LB Cortland Mitchell, Sr., Osceola: Finished with 139 tackles and four fumble recoveries for the 8-3 Warriors. 

LB Anthony Weaver, Sr., Keswick Christian: Had 110 tackles, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries for the Crusaders this season.
