Hillsborough County Defensive Player of the Year Poll (Classes 6A-2A) – Dec. 30

Here are the nominees for the Hillsborough County football defensive player of the year in Classes 6A-2A. Voting lasts until 9 a.m. Sunday.

LB Lewis Carter, Jr.,Tampa Catholic: Recorded 66 tackles, two sacks and an interception for the 7-4 Crusaders.

DL Brandon Cleveland, Sr., Carrollwood Day: Had 50 tackles and eight sacks for the 10-3 Patriots this season.

LB AJ Cottrill, Sr., Jesuit: Finished with 158 tackles for the season, including 23 in the 6A final, and had a game-sealing interception in that game that clinched the Tigers first championship since 1968.

LB Al’Vondre Lewis, Jr., Sumner: Ended up with 91 tackles, six sacks, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries to help the Stingrays win their first ever district title.

DL Ryan Longman, Sr., Seffner Christian: Finished with 79 tackles, seven sacks and three fumble recoveries for the 6-5 Crusaders.

LB Tre Reader, Sr., Berkeley Prep: Recorded 124 tackles, 3 ½ sacks and had two fumble recoveries while leading the Buccaneers to their first ever 3A state final appearance.

LB Joey Sipp Jr., Sr., Hillsborough: Ended up with 111 tackles, two sacks and two forced fumbles for the 10-3 Terriers.
