G Tristan Gross, Sr., St. Petersburg

The three-star recruit became a coveted prospect by showing off his ability to score, particularly from 3-point range. 

In his first season at St. Petersburg, Gross has helped the Green Devils to the No. 2 seed currently in Class 5A, Region 3 based on RPI rankings. 

During the holidays, Gross averaged 24 points in three games at the Tampa Sun Bash Tournament, including 31 against Orlando Olympia. He followed that up by scoring 40 points, including hitting on 11 3-pointers, in last week’s win over Palm Harbor University. 

Fans were impressed. Gross had 60 percent of the votes (1,136) in last week’s boys basketball player of the week poll to beat out Brooks DeBartolo’s Jordin Bell, who had 22 percent (417 votes).
