G Cali Smitley, Fr., Clearwater Central Catholic

It did not take long for Cali Smitley to get playing time as a freshman. 

The newcomer has played a pivotal role for Clearwater Central Catholic since the season opener. She scored in all but one game during the regular season and reached double figures four times. 

Her performance helped the Marauders secure a winning record for the second straight season and the third time in the past five seasons. 

Three weeks ago, Smitley had her best performance of the season, finishing with 16 points, 10 steals and five assists in a win over Indian Rocks Christian.

Fans were impressed. Smitley had 59 percent of the votes (2,097) in the Pinellas County girls basketball player of the week poll to beat out Palm Harbor University’s Ciara Daly, who had 34 percent (2,407).
