Hillsborough County baseball player of the week – Feb. 21-26

Here are the nominees for the Hillsborough County baseball player of the week. Voting lasts until 9 a.m. Saturday. 

P Jaime Arnold, Sr., Jesuit: Threw five scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and striking out nine in a season-opening win over defending state champion Bloomingdale. 

P Anthony Arteaga, Sr., Leto: Threw a no-hitter with 15 strikeouts in a win over Spoto. 

P/1B Cade McDonald, Jr., Sickles: Ended going a combined 8-for-11 with a homer, two doubles and six RBIs at the plate and had a combined 10 strikeouts on the mound to lead the Gryphons to a 3-0 start. 

P/1B Adan Longoria, Jr., Plant City: Threw a no-hitter (one walk away from a perfect game) with 16 strikeouts in a win over Middleton and went a combined 4-for-6 with three doubles at the plate the first two games of the season. 

P/3B Owen McElfatrick, Sr., Berkeley Prep: Hit two homers, including a grand slam in the eighth inning, to left the Buccaneers to a 10-6 win over River Ridge. 

P Michael Richards, Sr., Tampa Catholic: Threw a no-hitter with 12 strikeouts in a season-opening win over IMG Silver. 

OF Devin Suero, So., Durant: Went a combined 6-for-10 with two doubles, two RBIs and three runs scored to lead the Cougars to a 3-0 start.
