Flag football: The bay area buzz — March 7

Preseason player of the year

WR/LB Christal Rolack, Sr., Robinson

Once again, Rolack will be counted on for production on both sides of the ball in order to lead the Knights to another state title. Last year, she had 20 receptions for 370 yards and 10 touchdowns on offense and finished with 75 tackles, five interceptions and four sacks on defense for the defending 1A state champions. Fans were impressed. Rolack had 42 percent of the votes (904) in the preseason player of the year poll to beat out Newsome’s Devyn Silvestri, who had 33 percent (700 votes).

Weekend rewind

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers hosted the nation’s largest girls flag football tournament at USF. More than 70 teams, mostly local, competed in the preseason event, now in its fourth year.

The tournament, presented by Advent Health, even received a shoutout on the NFL Network’s Good Morning Football show.

Among those in attendance were Buccaneers offensive linemen Tristan Wirfs and Donovan Smith and WWE star Titus O’Neil.

Here are the results from each day of the tournament.
