Hillsborough County softball player of the week – Feb. 28-March 5

Here are the nominees for the Hillsborough County softball player of the week. Voting lasts until 9 a.m. Friday. 

P/OF/1B Natalie Cable, Fr., Bloomingdale: Threw a one-hit shutout with 16 strikeouts in a win over Plant, then followed up with a two-hitter and 16 strikeout performance to beat Riverview. 

SS Megan deVilliers, Jr., Sumner: Went 4-for-4 with a triple, a homer and seven RBIs in a win over Armwood. 

P Avery Powers, Fr., Berkeley Prep: Threw a no-hitter (one hit batter away from a perfect game) and recorded 22 strikeouts in a 10-inning win over Tampa Catholic. She also allowed one earned run and finished with seven strikeouts in a win over previously unbeaten Palm Harbor University. 

P Juli Rodriguez, Fr., Lennard: Allowed a combined two earned runs and recorded 25 strikeouts in wins over Spoto and Blake. 

UTIL Kennedy Shea, Fr., Strawberry Crest: Ended up going 3-for-5 with two triples and five RBIs in a win over Alonso to keep the Chargers perfect start (3-0) intact. 

SS Karley Shelton, So., Newsome: Went a combined 4-for-7 with three doubles, a homer and four RBIs in wins over Riverview and East Bay. 

P Lorna Spada, Jr., Tampa Bay Tech: Threw three perfect innings with five strikeouts on the mound and drove in a run on offense in a win over Blake. 

C/UTIL Kacey Wilkes, Fr., Gaither: Ended going a combined 7-for-10 with two doubles in three games.
