Elite 11 camp

The Elite 11 camp put together an event for flag football players from Florida and Georgia during a showcase in Orlando this past weekend. The Tampa Bay area was well-represented among the 28 quarterbacks who participated.

Newsome’s Devyn Silvestri, the reigning 1A player of the year who led the program to its first state title last season, was named the Flag MVP and accuracy challenge winner.

Prime time team of the night

Alonso

The Ravens, who won consecutive state titles in 2018-19, missed out on their chance to three-peat with a loss to eventual state champion Newsome in last year’s region semifinals. But Alonso appears poised to contend again, especially after an impressive 61-0 win over Wharton in the season opener. Mieke Rowe was nearly perfect, completing 20 of 23 passes for 257 yards and six touchdowns. Her top target was Makenna Sturgis, who had catches for 106 yards and a touchdown. On defense, Isansa Bonga led the way with two interceptions.

Prime time player of the night

Nekiya King, Fr., Durant

The edge rusher had a memorable high school debut, registering seven tackles and six sacks to lead the Cougars in a 40-0 win over Brandon.
