Season stats: 0.60 ERA, 18 strikeouts

The lowdown: Last month, Santiago threw five innings, allowing two runs (one unearned) and striking out eight in a win over Lake Gibson. Fans were impressed. Santiago had 43 percent of the votes (939) in the Pasco County baseball player of the week poll to beat out Sunlake’s Tyler Doran, who had 31 percent (679 votes).

Season stats: 2.25 ERA, 18 strikeouts, .364 batting average

The lowdown: Three weeks ago, Santiago tossed a one-hit shutout with nine strikeouts on the mound and had two doubles and two RBIs at the plate in a five-inning win over Celebration. Fans took notice. Santiago had 30 percent of the votes (866) in the Pasco County baseball player of the week poll to beat out Mitchell’s Jace Trautner, who had 23 percent (676 votes).
