Softball: Hernando County region quarterfinal breakdown (Classes 4A-2A) — May 11

Here are the capsules for Hernando County softball teams playing in tonight’s region quarterfinals in Classes 4A-2A. The winners advance to Tuesday’s region semifinals.

Class 4A

Nature Coast (18-9) at Lake Wales (17-7), 7

A loss to Wesley Chapel in the 4A-4 district final snapped the Sharks’ seven-game win streak. Nature Coast has played well down the stretch, winning 11 of its last 13 games. The Highlanders, who are ranked sixth in the class by MaxPreps, have outscored foes by a combined 31-2 during their current four-game win streak.

The Buffalo has struggled with consistency, going 2-3 in its last five games. The defending state finalist Leopards have won 12 straight, culminating with last week’s 3A-6 district title. Seven of the wins during that current streak are by double digits.
