Here are the capsules for the area teams playing in tonight’s 5A region semifinals. The winners advance to Monday’s region finals.
River Ridge (14-12) at Hollins (20-6-1), 7
The dream season continues for the Royals. After winning its first conference title since 1991 and their first district title since 1996 – both in extra innings – Hollins continued its flair for dramatics in the region quarterfinals by beating defending state semifinalist Jefferson 3-2 in eight innings. The win came courtesy of a walk-off homer from Ryland Bozenhard, who held his own on the mound through 6 ⅔ innings. The Royal Knights got hot at the right time, winning three straight games for the 5A-5 district title and to advance to the semifinals. Their offense has been on a tear, scoring a combined 38 runs during their current win streak.

Seminole (17-11) at Jesuit (20-8), 7
The Warhawks got past upstart Sumner in the region quarterfinals. Pitching depth has been key to the Warhawks’ success. They were able to save Jackson Graden, the likely starter for tonight who is 4-1 with a 0.75 ERA this season. The Tigers have plenty of arms, too. After all, Jamie Arnold threw a no-hit shutout and was one walk away from a perfect game in Tuesday’s quarterfinal win over Hillsborough. But the most encouraging sign is an offense that exploded for 10 runs against the Terriers that was among Jesuit’s most impressive performances as a team this season.
